Hello everyone! I’m back with another book tag! I was tagged by the wonderful Megs over at Between the Pages! Thank you so much for the tag!
CHOCOLATE CAKE: A dark book you absolutely love
The very first book to come to mind is Lost Boy by Christina Henry. This is a dark Peter Pan retelling and oh my, is it marvelous! It is Captain Hook’s story and how he came to be the villain; however, in this story, Peter is the villain not Hook.
VANILLA CAKE: A light read
I’m not much of a contemporary reader, but I do enjoy picking one up every once in a while. For this one I’m going to go with Jenny Han’s The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy. This was a cute summer read. It took me only 1 day to read all three books. I’d say that qualifies this series as being a light read.
RED VELVET: A book that gave you mixed emotions
I’m choosing the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. I really liked the first book in this series, but the last two just ruined the entire series for me. I wanted to love it so much, but after finishing the trilogy, I realized I hated it. I also had a hard time liking Tris. She just annoyed me with her stupid decisions throughout the entire series.
CHEESECAKE: A book you would recommend to anyone
Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. This book has been a favorite of mine for so long. It was passed down my family line, beginning with my grandfather, then to my mother, then to me. Three different people with three different tastes in books all fell in love with this story. This is one of my favorite books of all time. I recommend it to everyone!!
COFFEE CAKE: A book you started but never finished
I pride myself on the fact that I always finish a book that I have started. It’s just the type of person I am; once I start something, I have to finish it. There was one exception to this. White Bird in a Blizzard by Laura Kasischke. I originally picked this book up because I saw the movie trailer for it and it looked good. Nope. I hated it. I didn’t get very far, but I knew straight away I wasn’t going to like it so I quit while I was ahead. To this day, I still haven’t seen the movie. The book turned me off from it.
CARROT CAKE: A book with great writing
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. This book has such a mesmerizing writing style. I loved it from the opening chapter. Here is my full review of this book if you are interested in hearing what I have to say about it.
TIRAMISU: A book that left you wanting more
For this one, I’m going to go with my most recent read, When I Am Through With You by Stephanie Keuhn. The ending just didn’t tie up the loose ends and that left me feeling like the ending wasn’t complete. Here is my review on this book if you are interested.
CUPCAKES: A series with 4+ books
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I adored this series. There are 4 primary works along with a couple of novellas that going along with the series.
FRUIT CAKE: A book that wasn’t what you anticipated
I’m going to go with a book that surprised me at how good it was. This would be The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. Wow, this book blew me away. I loved it! I was not anticipating to fall in love with this book the way I did. It made me laugh and cry, which is always a good thing!

Ugh, I remember being in 6th grade and my teacher showed us the movie Where the Red Fern Grows (after we had read it of course) and we were all bawling by the end. I also agree with you regarding the Divergent trilogy and The Wrath and the Dawn! xx

I never read the Divergent Series, but I loved the films! I meant to get round to reading them but like every other book I haven’t haha! I read your review on When I am Through With You and it does sound good (even with the loose ends!)

Blah. The Divergent movies were nothing like the actual books.
And i still really liked the book even if it didn’t totally wrap up the way I wanted it to

Really? I don’t know why I’m surprised, when do film adaptations ever represent an accurate account of the book?!
