How far would you go to save the damned? Celeste Adair lives in a world painted gray. She’s spent the last five years of her life stuck in a mental institution because she told the truth: there was an angel on the roof of her foster home. Since then, she’s been slapped with labels she didn’t deserve and words she didn’t ask for. Luke Enoch lives in a world painted a fire red. He and his sister, Clover, have been living on the streets of Brooklyn for the last five years, running from the police because Luke has been accused of lighting the house fire that killed their parents. Luke has sacrificed everything to keep Clover safe and will do whatever it takes to make sure she doesn’t suffer the same fate he has. After waking up from what they thought to be their final breaths, Celeste and Luke find themselves trapped in the year 1392 with a single mission: protect Romeo and Juliet, the star-crossed lovers. With the centuries-old war brewing, the only shot they have at keeping Romeo and Juliet alive is keeping them separate. But, when fate (and a trigger-happy prince) steps in, there aren’t many things Celeste and Luke can do to stop all of Verona from falling into war. With the line between good and bad erased, Celeste and Luke will have to risk everything to keep the star-crossed lovers safe—even if it means losing each other.
This book was everything I wanted and more!! It was a twist on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and it was just so well done! I loved every minute of it!! There were time loops, angels, demons, and lots and lots of violence! I totally did not expect this book to be as violent as it was. This is not a bad thing in my opinion. The bloodier, the better!
The story begins in the 21st century with Celeste as our main character. We find out that for the past five years she has called a mental institution her home. Then we have Luke, our other main character. He’s been running from the cops for years with his sister in Brooklyn, NY. Celeste and Luke’s lives intertwine when they get sent back to the year 1392 on a mission to save the fated lovers, Romeo and Juliet.
This was such a roller coaster of a book. I know when I hear Romeo and Juliet, I don’t think of angels and demons. I love how they were incorporated into the story! I am so excited to read the next installment in the Eon Warriors series, especially after that cliffhanger ending!
If you love fantasy books with angels and demons or like books that take a classic and re-write it with a twist, then this is the book for you! I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars!
Thank you to Maddison Wilson for sending me an advanced reader’s copy of this book in return for an honest review!

I miss the days of reading classics such as Romeo and Juliet. It’s nice to see spin offs of such beautiful works.

I love the spin offs. As much as I try to read classics, I just don’t care for them much.

I feel they were forced to read in school. I used to dislike them as well, until I started making animation projects for them. Like The Odyssey. It was mad fun.

Great review! Not sure about this one. I’m not a big fan of blood/gore. I do love Romeo & Juliet though…

It’s not overly gory, but there is definitely violence.

I’m not much of a retelling person, but I do find myself interested in Shakespeare retelling…I think especially because there’s so much room to go with them, and every production is more or less a retelling anyway!
