What Are You Reading Wednesday?

What Are You Reading Wednesday was created by RhiannaMarissa, and Kendall. The idea is to create a space for book lovers to share, discuss, and recommend the books they are currently reading and loving. All you have to do is answer the questions about your current read and then head over to one of the host’s sites to link up your post! Have fun and don’t forget to check out everyone’s posts as well!

THE NITTY-GRITTY

Share the book/s you are reading with their author, maybe even the cover, and then answer these questions for at least one of them

  1. Why did you decide to pick up this book–cover or content?
  2. Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
  3. Will you finish this one?
  4. Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of…(other books, movies, tv shows…)
  5. What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down…)

Catarina Agatta is a hacker. She can cripple mainframes and crash through firewalls, but that’s not what makes her special. In Cat’s world, people are implanted with technology to recode their DNA, allowing them to change their bodies in any way they want. And Cat happens to be a gene-hacking genius.

That’s no surprise, since Cat’s father is Dr. Lachlan Agatta, a legendary geneticist who may be the last hope for defeating a plague that has brought humanity to the brink of extinction. But during the outbreak, Lachlan was kidnapped by a shadowy organization called Cartaxus, leaving Cat to survive the last two years on her own.

When a Cartaxus soldier, Cole, arrives with news that her father has been killed, Cat’s instincts tell her it’s just another Cartaxus lie. But Cole also brings a message: before Lachlan died, he managed to create a vaccine, and Cole needs Cat’s help to release it and save the human race.

Now Cat must decide who she can trust: The soldier with secrets of his own? The father who made her promise to hide from Cartaxus at all costs? In a world where nature itself can be rewritten, how much can she even trust herself?

1. Why did you decide to pick up this book–cover or content?

While I think the cover of this book is completely awesome, I chose to read this book because of its content. I love post-apocalyptic and science fiction books so I thought this book was right up my alley.

2. Who is your favorite character so far, and why?

This is hard. There’s not one character that I love more than the others. If I were to choose it would be between our main character Catarina or Cole. I like both of these characters equally. Catarina because she is extremely intelligent and quick on her feet; Cole because he has an amazing protective instinct.

3. Will you finish this one?

Yes. I am just about finished with this book. I have less than one hundred pages left to read.

4. This book reminds me of…

Kind of The Walking Dead on the plague aspect. The book has an airborne virus that has humans acting like they are zombies throughout the book. I can’t really think of anything that deals with the gene-hacking portion of this book. I am sure there is something like it, just not something that I have seen or read about.

5. What type of read is this one? (Slow but interesting, cannot put it down…)

I started reading this book while in a reading slump so it took me quite a while to get into the story. From all the other reviews I’ve seen this one has been a big hit in the Young Adult book community, but for me personally, this book started off slow.

      1. It’s about a navy ship trying to save humanity from extinction. A virus has wiped out more than half the population. It’s really good imo. It airs on TBS.
