Hey everyone! Today I’m coming at you with another Christmas themed post! This one was one of my favorites to write up! Sometimes you just gotta vent and let out all the pent up feelings you’ve been holding in! Man, did it feel good to write this tag! Also, a warning in advance, in no way do I intend to offend anyone by this tag. I’m sorry in advance right now if I do. PS there is profanity in this post, so if that offends you, you might want to skip this one. If you are a fan of John Green or Divergent, you might not want to read this post.
I saw this tag over on Melanie’s blog, Mel to the Any. You should definitely go check her post out as well!
This tag was originally created by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes.
Let’s get into the tag!
Half of the lights on the Christmas tree are burnt out: Name a book/series/character that started out good but then went downhill.
The Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth. It started out great! I actually really liked the first book. The last two were just awful though. It literally took me one whole month to read Insurgent. And guys, if you know me, I read a typical book in 2 to 3 days. A month is just ridiculous for me.
Annoying Great Aunt Sally who will not leave you alone: Name a book that you didn’t enjoy, but everyone else seems to love so it never goes away.
Literally any book by John Green. Oh my god you guys. I really cannot stand his writing at all!! It’s so boring!! Like, honestly, I had to force myself to finish Paper Towns. I really don’t get the hype AT ALL. I’m just over John Green. I can’t read another book by him. Just to put it out there, I didn’t like TFIOS either.
Your pets keep knocking over the Christmas decoration: Name a character that kept messing things up for everyone else. (Can’t pick a villain.)
*Spoilers for Divergent*
TRIS PRIOR. Oh my god, Tris. Literally she did the opposite of what she was told all the time. FOR ONE DAMN SECOND CAN YOU JUST LISTEN TO EVERYONE ELSE AND JUST STAY OUT OF TROUBLE?! NO, no you can’t. And that’s why you died. Haha.
You hear your parents putting out the presents and learn Santa isn’t real: Name a book you were spoiled for.
So, here’s the thing. I am really good about avoiding spoilers and I pride myself on that. BUT there was a book I was spoiled for BY MY BEST FRIEND. You know who you are! I’m still holding a grudge against you for it even if I can’t remember the character’s name. I know the minute I pick the book up, I’ll remember when I see it. I was spoiled for The Razorland series by Ann Aguirre. I still haven’t picked up this series because I was spoiled. I may never pick it up now. I do not take spoilers lightly.
It’s freezing outside: Name a main character you just couldn’t connect with.
Tris Prior, once again. She just was so freakin’ annoying!! I just wanted her to make smart choices for once and she NEVER DID. Boy, she aggravated me so much.
Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ and it’s giving you anti-romantic feelings: Name a couple you couldn’t stand.
I don’t know if they were ever considered a “couple” per se, but I’m going with Bella and Jacob from Twilight. SHE BELONGS WITH EDWARD!! She will never belong with Jacob! I will fight you on this!
That scratchy homemade wool sweater you got for Christmas years ago but won’t get rid of: Show some books that have been sitting on your shelves for awhile and you aren’t motivated to read, but you don’t have the heart to get rid of.
I have a book that I got at BookCon that I don’t think I’ll ever read. I had never heard of the book before BookCon and I got it signed by the author so I don’t want to get rid of it. After my friend Sarah DNF’d a book by her (not the same book I have) I just don’t think I will ever pick it up. The author is Brenda Drake. The book I’m talking about is Thief of Lies. Also, after reading the reviews, a lot of people say it is a cheap knockoff of City of Bones.
Grandma got run over by a reindeer: Name a character death you still are mad about. (Warn people for spoilers! You can also use tv or movie deaths.)
*Spoilers for Harry Potter, The Walking Dead, and Bridge to Terabithia*
I have a few so I am going to do one for each category, though I could probably do like 3 for each one. I’ll just stick to one per category.
Book: Fred Weasley. I still cry every night. I am heartbroken.
TV: Glenn from The Walking Dead. WHY?!?!? Why bring him back to just kill him off?? I’m salty about this one.
Movie: (This is also a book but I only watched the movie) Leslie from Bridge to Terabithia. WHAT THE HELL!!! I was not expecting her to die. I was only a child for goodness sake when I watched this. I’m still scarred to this day.
The malls are overly crowded with holiday shoppers: Name a series that has too many books in it/went on too long.
The House of Night series by P.C. and Kristin Cast. I think there are 12 books in this series. It is just ridiculous. I’ve been reading this series since I was in high school. THESE BOOKS NEVER STOP COMING!! I’ll never finish this series. It’s just too much.
The Grinch: Name one character you HATE. (No villains)
You probably already know who I’m going to say. Tris Prior. I don’t think I need an explanation by now. I’ve hated on her character enough.
Well. that completes The Grinch Book Tag. I hope I didn’t offend anyone too horribly. I had a blast writing this tag up!
I TAG:
Ok must say I LOVE the honesty here!!

It felt so good!! Also, I love bashing John Green and Divergent 😂 Ask my friends irl. Those are the two bookish things I complain about the most.

I love it! I totally understand all the Divergent hate. That series was horrible and the movies were just as bad. Last I heard they were supposed to make it a TV show but that will be horrible too.

Everything about Divergent is horrible!! I just can’t with that series.

This is a fun tag! I might try doing it sometime. I was spoiled for the last Divergent book, and I read it just to get it over with…and I HATED IT!

I love all of these answers, but you have NO IDEA how much I love you for saying the House of Night series went on too long. GIRL, I felt like it wasn’t Halloween unless I was rage reading one of those books for…. A DECADE? Oh my gosh. You seriously just made my day! I’m so happy you did the tag! Happy holidays, beautiful! ❄☃💙xx

Thanks! It was such a fun tag to write up! I definitely had some feelings I needed to get off my chest! And I know, HoN should have ended way sooner that it did…of it has even ended. Happy holidays to you as well! 😊

Honestly I just love tags where just rant about books they hate! I totally agree with you about John Green though I did enjoy tfios when I first read it years ago but I’m not sure I’d feel the same way about it if I re-read it today. Same with Divergent.

I agree with you on so many levels!! Bella belongs with Edward, period! Also not a fan of John Green. Also, I didn’t know Brenda Drake wrote anything else. After the book I DNF’d was so bad, I don’t think I’ll be picking up any of them!

Yay! So glad you agree with me!! And yeah, Brenda has other books but I’m totally not interested after your DNF and the bad reviews I’ve seen for the book I own by her.

I enjoyed the movie TFIOS so I decided to give the book a try and honestly I wish I hadn’t…

Yup. I feel the same way. I liked the movie more than the book.

A month to read Insurgent? It took me, like, EIGHT MONTHS! Granted I had just started high school. Thankfully after that I started getting back into reading again.

OMG I love your answers. I only liked TFIOS by John Green I had a hard time with all the others I’ve read so far. I’m with you on Bella and Jacob. I don’t even understand how you can ship it. Also I can still cry over Glenn’s dead. It’s one of the TV show deaths that hurt the most!

I preferred TFIOS movie over the book. And yeah, I just can’t with Bella and Jacob. Never liked them together. And Glenn’s death was just unfair! It’s the death that has ever hit me the hardest in television. Well his and one of the sisters from Charmed. (Don’t wanna spoil you if you haven’t seen it!)

Completely agree, I could never see Bella with Jacob either, I’m so glad she did end up with Edward.
